A friend of mine recently told a group of us that he has a minor condition with his nervous system.

And I asked what I thought was the obvious question: “Why don’t we have a calm system?”
We have nerve endings, after all.
Why not calm endings?
Many times we suffer from an attack of nerves.
What about an attack of calm?
John Mellencamp even sings about his worn out nervous condition.
How about a warmed up calm disposition?
Just when I despaired over language and its assumptions, I was rescued by Scripture and its proclamations.
Here’s Philippians 4:6-7:
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
That’s a calm system leading to calm endings governed by a calm disposition.
