Top Five Tuesday — Top Five Songs About Food

Two days from now I won’t be blogging, but I will be eating.

Odds are, so will you.

Food is on our mind this week, and for two primary reasons:  1) we’re fixing to remember the Pilgrims’ faithfulness as well as our blessings, and 2) Hostess is, temporarily at least, out of business.

So with food’s excess and food’s absence both so prominent, why not a musical look at the subject?

Here they are: my top five songs about food.

5.  Dee Dee Sharp, Mashed Potato Time.

The song is almost as good as its subject, for sure my favorite Thanksgiving side item.  Or main course.

4.  The Cast Of Oliver, Food, Glorious Food.

This one, along with the movie from which it is taken, never gets old.  Unlike leftover turkey.

3.  Meat Loaf, Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.

This song has nothing to do with food per se, but how could I not include Meat Loaf on this list?

2.  Jimmy Buffet, Cheeseburger In Paradise.

Too bad I’m gluten intolerant.

1.  Rolling Stones, Brown Sugar.

Brown sugar doesn’t exactly come from one of the four essential food groups, but this song is essential to any appreciation of classic rock.  The Stones at their riffing, raunchy best.
