Here’s Psalm 2:11
Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
Yikes.
I sense that few people celebrate the Lord’s rule. More object to it. Still more re-fashion it to suit their own agenda. Even more simply ignore it.
And yet the call to celebrate his rule — better yet, to do so with trembling — is haunting me today.
It’s a reminder of how broken I am before the cross. And how hopeless I am without it.
It gives notice that his commands are not there for me to debate but to obey. And they’re fundamentally for my good.
It’s a warning that keeps me from defining eternity according to my wants; he’s the one who inhabits heaven and he’s the one who decides what it’s like.
The fear of God has all but disappeared in our day.
This is the day to bring it back.
Celebrate his rule with trembling.
