Eye Rollers, Week 3 — “If You Are Angry You’re Subject To Judgment”

Most of you know that I really like preaching.

I like the study, the brainstorming, the preparing, the delivering, and even the responding.

And in recent months, with the Simplify The Message; Multiply The Impact workshop I’ve been teaching, I have spent a lot of time putting into words things that, in my mind at least, go without saying.  Or put another way: for the sake of the students in the class, I’ve been giving expression to that which is by now second nature.

But I digress.

Because while I always like preaching I love what I get to share this Sunday.  The whole message hinges on the most subtle twist in Jesus’ words as recorded in Matthew’s Gospel.  I’ve been reading this section for decades and never caught on to the masterful pivot embedded in the text until this spring.

It changes not only everything about the passage but everything about my sermon as well.  You might want to check Matthew 5:21-26 ahead of time to see if you can figure out what I’m talking about.

Otherwise, it’s Sunday …
